Disaster Etiquette Cards
from left to right: Quake, Flood, Spill, Volcano, Twister Disaster Etiquette Card
5.5 x 4.25 inches each when folded. ink on paper.
The cards were created as I metabolized the sobering fact of the increasing number of natural disasters in the world. In particular, I was reacting to the 2010 BP Oil Spill of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that had just occurred. (This leak, that took 87 days to cap, was estimated to have poured 3.19 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.)
Meant to bring subtle humor into the normalities of everyday, these cards could be given to friends with light-hearted sympathy for recent personal "disasters" – a romantic break-up, a flooding basement, or a tantrumming toddler, for example.
